Vintage Young’s road bike
This vintage steel road bike was made by E H ‘Ernie’ Young of Lewisham. Ernie opened his first shop in the spring of 1946 when he was only 16 years of age ‘with the aid of two tenners loaned by his dad’. The paint has worn in places with age but the frame boasts nice lined lugs that show off the craftsmanship of Young’s.
It features 3×5 gears with Suntour down tube shifters and a Shimano 105 rear derailleur, Mafac center pull brake calipers with Weinmann levers, full length mudguards, and a rear rack.
We have fitted a new chain, rear wheel, tyres, brake pads, and pedals.
Another interesting piece of history is the ‘Duralite’ front hub, which was made by T.F. Blumfield at their premises on Holt Street, Birmingham.
The frame size is 56cm.
