The holy grail of amateur mechanics is surely how to set up and index gears. In this course we’ll spend a whole three hours looking very closely at some of the smallest parts of the bike to understand what makes it shift. We’ll discuss variations in components, compatibility issues across brands, discuss ratios and tooth capacities and then have you set up and index both front and rear dérailleurs.

All courses are taught in very small groups with plenty of hands-on time. We will provide training bikes to work on so you don’t need to bring your own. This course follows on naturally from our Bike Basics or Home Mechanics course but you can start here if you already have a bit of experience working on bikes.
